LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — A celebration revealing the completion of Westfield Century City’s renovation took place earlier today in Los Angeles, with community leaders, VIPs, Westfield retail partners and prominent industry insiders all in attendance to celebrate the occasion.
The evening incorporated a “California Soul” theme, with an invitation-only event featuring performances from some of LA’s hottest musical acts – including the award-winning DNCE featuring lead singer Joe Jonas and indie pop sensation Fitz & Tantrums. A surprise set by legendary disco group Village People rounded out the evening’s entertainment.
Other special guests in attendance were Steven Lowy, Peter Lowy, Will I Am, Eric Buterbaugh, Debbie Allen, Metta World Peace, Eric Rutherford and more. The red carpet also included J.R. Marinez, veteran advocate and winner of Dancing with the Stars and Gary Linfoot, a veteran who, while paralyzed, walks with the assistance of an exoskeleton funded by charity partner the Infinite Hero Foundation.
Festivities were preceded by a press conference with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Westfield Co-CEOs Steven and Peter Lowy, City Councilmember Paul Koretz, as well as J.R. Martinez and Laurie Baker, Executive Director of the Infinite Hero Foundation.
“Los Angeles always envisions tomorrow and builds it today,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “The $1 billion investment in the re-imagined Westfield Century City is a new chapter in that story — a place where Angelenos and people from everywhere can experience the intersection of commerce, cuisine, and community that defines the future of retail.”
Highlights of the day’s events also included the official Grand Opening of Westfield Century City’s new three-level Nordstrom and the full unveiling of the property’s outdoor plazas, landscaped terraces and events and entertainment spaces. The milestone is also significant in that a majority of the destination’s 200+ shops and restaurants have now opened for business, with additional retail and restaurant arrivals to follow, including Eataly, which will open later in October.
Century City well represents Westfield’s global flagship portfolio as the company continues to create cutting-edge retail and leisure destinations defined by a careful curation of offerings. Westfield Century City’s unique mix of fashion retail, food, health, wellness and fitness is designed to fulfill evolving consumer needs – everything from a daily trip to the gym or grocery store, to an afternoon shopping and relaxing with friends or a special dinner out.
“What we unveil today brings the best of Southern California all into one place and is changing the face of retail on the Westside, said Westfield co-CEO Peter Lowy. “It also reflects the very best of what Westfield has to offer as we build, invest, and reinvest in shopping centers here and in Europe. Westfield Century City is THE place for the 21st century.”
Encompassing emerging local labels and global brands, the retail mix at Westfield Century City includes over 50 brands that are new to the Westside as well as an emphasis on health and wellness that broadens the Century City experience beyond just traditional shopping. The center also attracted a number of digital-first brands and food also takes center stage at Westfield Century City.
The event took place in partnership with the Infinite Hero Foundation, which helps combat the most difficult frontline issues, both mental and physical, that face returning military heroes and their families – while also funding programs that drive innovation and the accessibility of effective treatments dealing with service-related injuries. The partnership with Infinite Hero fits more broadly within the Westfield Veterans Initiative, which was launched in 2015.
